The common dotted garden skink, also called the common snake skink or spotted supple skink, is brown above and on the sides, with each scale carrying a dark basal spot. In the young the spots join into four or six longitudinal lines down the back, and the young have a distinctive red tail that is lost in adults, replaced by small spots that merge into continuous lines as the animal ages (Wikipedia, general species account).

The tail is thick at the base and a little longer than the head and body. A yellowish dorsolateral streak starts on the snout and is strongly marked in the young, and the lower surfaces are yellowish-white. It is found in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, mostly in hilly regions.
