The northern palm squirrel, or five-striped palm squirrel, is a small, semi-arboreal squirrel of tropical and subtropical dry deciduous forest. It also lives in montane forest up to 4,000m, scrubland, plantations, grasslands, farmland, rural gardens and urban areas (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its range includes the Andaman Islands, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Iran, and it was introduced to the Nicobar Islands. Authors have described additional subspecies, including one in Nepal, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, though a later study folded some of them back into the main form because measurements and colours overlap. Nationally Least Concern (Nepal National Red List 2011).
