Basic stats

Diet

Arthropods

Habitat

Forest; nests in tree crevices

Clutch size

4–6 reddish-brown blotched pinkish-white eggs

Size

12.5cm

It is brownish with lighter and darker streaks above and off-white below and on the eyebrow, browner above than the common treecreeper, with a contrasting rufous rump. It has a long curved bill and long stiff tail feathers that let it creep up vertical tree trunks looking for arthropod prey; its specific distinctness from the common treecreeper was recently validated (Wikipedia, general species account).

It nests in tree crevices, and the typical clutch is four to six reddish-brown blotched, pinkish-white eggs. The song starts with two of the shree calls characteristic of the species and its close relatives, followed by one or a few warbling calls and usually two up- and down-slurring notes; the whole song takes about 2 to 2.5 seconds (Wikipedia, general species account).
