The long-tailed broadbill is the only bird in its genus, about 25 cm long and 50–60 g. It has a bright yellow throat and face, with yellow extending on each side of the occiput and down in a thin band round the neck, and blue-green plumage on the belly, back and wings (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is very sociable and normally travels in large, noisy parties except during the mating season, though despite loud high-pitched calls it is relatively shy and hides among foliage. It builds a pear-shaped nest in a tree; the female usually lays five or six eggs, incubated by both sexes, which also help feed the young (Wikipedia, general species account).
