The marbled balloon frog, also known as the indistinct frog or lesser balloon frog, is a very stout narrow-mouthed frog with a small head, growing to 64mm from snout to vent. It has no teeth, which is probably related to a diet, after metamorphosis, of mainly termites and ants, gathered with the tongue. It is found in Pakistan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is a burrowing frog seen in dry forest, plains, gardens and farmland. Adults appear only in the summer monsoons and otherwise retreat into the soil, and feeding may concentrate on rainy nights when termites swarm. It breeds during the monsoon, with males calling from stream banks and paddy fields, and the eggs float in water.
