The rustic bunting is about the size of a reed bunting. Summer males have a black head, white throat and reddish breast band, and females are streaked brown with a chestnut nape. Its call resembles a song thrush's and its song is a melancholic phrase. It lives in wet coniferous woodland and eats seeds, plus insects when feeding young (Wikipedia, general species account).
It nests in a bush or on the ground with four to six eggs, breeds across the northern Palearctic and winters in South-east Asia, Japan, Korea and eastern China. The source does not mention Nepal or South Asia, so its status on the Nepal list should be checked. Pallas described it in 1776 and it is sister to the little bunting (Wikipedia, general species account).
