The African, or common, stonechat is a member of the Old World flycatcher family inhabiting sub-Saharan Africa and adjacent regions. The males have a black head, a white half-collar, a black back, a white rump and a black tail, with black wings that have a large white patch on the top side of the inner wing, and the subspecies nebularum of tropical West Africa has extensive orange-red on the breast and flanks. Both sexes' plumage is somewhat duller and streakier outside the breeding season, and the species is non-migratory, moving only locally if at all (Wikipedia, general species account).
