Habitat

Boreal forest

It was formerly placed in Carpodacus with the other rosefinches but was moved to the monotypic genus Agraphospiza on phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA. It differs from Carpodacus rosefinches in having unstreaked plumage in both sexes, a thinner, less conical bill, more pointed wings and a shorter tail. The common name commemorates the English zoologist William Thomas Blanford (Wikipedia, general species account).
