The brown-headed gull is a medium-sized gull, slightly larger than the black-headed gull. In summer it has a pale brown head, a pale grey body, a red bill and legs, and black wingtips with white mirrors; in winter the hood fades to dark vertical streaks. Young birds have a black tail band and take two years to mature (Wikipedia, general species account).
It breeds in colonies on the ground in large reedbeds, marshes or lake islands on the central Asian plateaus, and migrates to winter on the coasts and large inland lakes of the Indian subcontinent. It is a bold, noisy and highly gregarious bird in winter, feeding and roosting in flocks. The source does not mention Nepal (Wikipedia, general species account).
