Dendrelaphis pictus
Habitat
Forest; arboreal and active by day
Range
Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, China, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore (the source does not name Nepal)
Size
About 74cm head and body plus a 44cm tail
The common bronzeback, Dendrelaphis pictus, is an arboreal, day-active snake about 74cm in head and body with a 44cm tail. It is olive or brown above with a yellow side stripe, a black eye stripe and bluish-green bands on the nape, and climbs smooth surfaces by concertina movement. When threatened it flattens its front to reveal blue-turquoise skin. It lays eggs (Wikipedia, general species account).
Gmelin described it in 1789. The source places it in South-east Asia and China and does not name Nepal, so its Nepal status, and the identity of the Nepal animals, should be checked (Wikipedia, general species account).
