The greater white-fronted goose is named for the patch of white feathers bordering the base of its bill. It is 64 to 81cm long with a wingspan of 130 to 165cm and weighs 1.93 to 3.31kg. It has bright orange legs, mouse-coloured upper wing coverts and a pinkish bill, and the salt-and-pepper markings on the breast of adults are distinctive. It is smaller than the greylag goose (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is migratory, breeding in northern Canada, Alaska, Greenland and Russia and wintering farther south in North America, Europe and Asia. In the Arctic the window for nesting, incubating and raising a brood to flight is open for only about three months. Clutches are one to eight eggs, incubated for 22 to 27 days. The sources opened give no Nepal-specific information.
