Sorex excelsus

Basic stats

Range

Yunnan and Sichuan, China; Nepal uncertain (type locality near Xue Shan, Yunnan, about 3,960m)

The highland shrew, Sorex excelsus, was described from the Xue Shan range in Yunnan, China, at about 3,960m. The Mammal Diversity Database lists it from China with Nepal marked as uncertain, and a review suggests a specimen from Nepal in 1971 may be this species, but that identification is not certain (Mammal Diversity Database and related accounts).

Its presence in Nepal should therefore be checked. No size, appearance, habitat or diet detail was found in the sources used.
