The Indian spotted chevrotain is a small even-toed hoofed mammal in the chevrotain family, native to India and possibly Nepal. It lives in rainforest and is nocturnal. It has a body length of about 57.5cm, a tail of only 2.5cm and weighs around 3kg. It was long included under the name Tragulus meminna, which studies of the group have since restricted to the Sri Lankan spotted chevrotain (Wikipedia, general species account).
The Mammal Diversity Database marks its presence in Nepal with a query, so how far it occurs there is unsettled. Nepal's own list gives it as Critically Endangered, the highest threat category. Because little is documented about the species in Nepal, this entry is kept short and flagged for checking. Nationally Critically Endangered (Nepal National Red List 2011).
