The pin-tailed green pigeon is a medium-sized pigeon averaging 185 to 255g, with males 32 to 36cm and females about 28cm. It is yellow-green overall, with darker green wing coverts and black flight feathers. The central tail feathers are bluish-grey and the undertail coverts chestnut, the bill and eye ring are blue, and the legs are bright reddish-pink. Brian Hodgson recorded it from Nepal under the name apicauda (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is frugivorous, feeding mainly on fruit and berries in an acrobatic fashion, and gregarious, forming feeding flocks of 10 to 30 birds. Its song is a soft whistling ku-koo. In the Himalayan foothills nesting has been observed in April, May and June. The female lays two white eggs on a platform of twigs, and both parents incubate and feed the young.
