The rose-ringed or ring-necked parakeet is a medium-sized green parrot, 37–43cm long including its long tail. Asian birds are larger than African ones, weighing 104–143g. Adult males have a pink and black ring around the neck, while females and young birds have no ring or only a faint grey one. The sexes are otherwise alike. Four subspecies are recognised, two in Africa and two in Asia, and genetic work suggests the African and Asian birds may be separate species (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is one of the few parrots to have adapted well to disturbed habitats, urbanisation and deforestation (Wikipedia, general species account).
