Turdoides nipalensis
Habitat
Dense scrub; sings from bushes and small trees
Range
Middle Hills of Nepal, including around Kathmandu Valley (Godavari and Phulchoki)
The spiny babbler is a babbler found only in the Middle Hills of Nepal. It can be seen around the Kathmandu Valley, notably around Godavari and Phulchoki near Lalitpur. It is known locally as Kande Bhyakur, literally 'thorny bird'. It lives in dense scrub and mounts branches of bushes and small trees to sing (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is predominantly shy, but can be seen in the early breeding season when the males sing out in the open. It is threatened by the clearance of scrub for agriculture and the expansion of urban areas. The short source opened gives no size, diet, nest or clutch detail, so none are stated.
