High Himalaya
Alpine valleys and temperate forests hold blue sheep, tahr, red pandas and — for the exceptionally patient — snow leopards. Trekking is the main way to move through this landscape.
Western Terai
Bardia and Shuklaphanta offer broad sal forests and grasslands with fewer visitors, strong tiger habitat and some of Nepal's most rewarding slow wildlife watching.
Mid-hills & Kathmandu Valley
Rhododendron and broadleaf forests around Langtang, Shivapuri and Phulchowki make excellent birding country and an accessible introduction to Nepal's middle elevations.
Central & Eastern Terai
Chitwan, Parsa and Koshi Tappu combine tall grasslands, sal forest, wetlands and braided rivers — Nepal's richest zone for rhinos, tigers, crocodilians and wintering birds.
