The mountain weasel, also called the Altai or pale weasel, lives mainly in high-altitude habitats such as rocky tundra and grassy woodland. In summer the coat is grey to grey-brown with some light yellow, and in winter more of a dark yellow with some brown. The underparts are pale yellow to creamy white, the lips are white, and the tail may be more rufous than the back (Wikipedia, general species account).

It rests in rock crevices, tree trunks and burrows of other animals and is thought to be solitary except when mating. It breeds once a year, with mating usually in February or March and young born around May, one to eight to a litter. Its home range size is unknown, and little has been written about it specifically in Nepal. Nationally Data Deficient (Nepal National Red List 2011).
