Basic stats

Range

Size

Total length up to 65cm

The common mock viper is a small snake native to Asia, with a total length up to 65cm, shorter in males. Despite the name it is a snake rather than a lizard, so its listing under lizards in this guide appears to be a mistake. When threatened it forms defensive coils and strikes in a viper-like fashion, though it is harmless to humans (Wikipedia, general species account).

The Reptile Database lists Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia and China (Fujian, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan), and that list as shown does not include Nepal, so this entry is flagged for checking both its group and its Nepal record.
