The Eurasian collared dove is a medium-sized dove, about 32cm long with a wingspan of 47 to 55cm and a weight of 125 to 240g. It is grey-buff to pinkish-grey, slightly darker above than below, with a blue-grey underwing patch, a black half-collar edged with white on the nape, short red legs and a black bill. The iris is red, though the eyes look black from a distance (Wikipedia, general species account).
The call is a three-syllable goo-GOO-goo, with a harsh screeching chrrai-chrrai in flight just before landing. It typically breeds close to human habitation wherever food and nesting trees are available, with almost all nests within 1km of inhabited buildings. The female lays two white eggs in a stick nest, incubating at night while the male incubates by day.
