The great roundleaf bat, or great Himalayan leaf-nosed bat, is a large bat with a forearm up to 9.8cm that weighs up to 60g. In an experiment, painting the accessory leaflets of the noseleaf and the ears showed that when the bats click, the leaflets close and the ears bend down, and they open them again to listen (Wikipedia, general species account).
It has been recorded in northern and north-eastern India and in central, eastern and western Nepal. It is insectivorous, eating mainly beetles, butterflies and moths, flies and Hymenoptera, and has been seen foraging in cleared woodland, gardens and around street lights. It roosts alone or in small colonies in caves, house lofts and old temples, and breeds once a year, bearing two young. Nationally Least Concern (Nepal National Red List 2011).
