The lesser stripe-backed shrew, Sorex bedfordiae, is recorded from China, Myanmar and Nepal. In Nepal it is found in montane forest and alpine areas, reaching above 4,000m, and in China at about 3,500m in the rhododendron and conifer zone. Its habits and habitat are poorly known (Mammal Diversity Database and related accounts).
The taxonomy may be changing: a 2022 multi-locus study led the Mammal Diversity Database to treat the Nepal and China populations as a separate species, Sorex nepalensis, so the Nepal animals may belong to that species. No size or diet detail was found (Mammal Diversity Database).
