Sitana sivalensis

Basic stats

Range

Endemic to Nepal

Size

A little over 4cm snout-vent length

The Siwalik sitana, Sitana sivalensis, was described in 1998 by Schleich, Kastle and Shah and is endemic to Nepal. It is a tiny fan-throated lizard with a snout-vent length of little over 4cm, and its male throat fan ends between the forelegs rather than at the midline of the belly as in the other Sitana known at the time (Wikipedia and the original description).

Like others of its genus it lives on the ground, eating mainly insects but also molluscs and seeds, and males use the dewlap in breeding-season signalling (Wikipedia, general species account).
